Ear infections and/or sinus inflammation
|
 |
| |
In most cases of tinnitus, especially in children, there are some forms of ear and/or sinus infections that are accompanying by head noises. When accompanying other infections, tinnitus usually lessens and vanishes when the underlying infection is cured. Once the underlying infection is healed, tinnitus also vanishes.
The ear has three parts, the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. All three parts of the ear are interconnected. When one component of the ear become inflamed and you do not seek medical attention in time, the infection may spread or affect the other parts of the ear. For instance, otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear) often follows other infections that spread via the Eustachian tube such as sinusitis, colds, tonsillitis and other inflammatory disorders.
When the Eustachian tube becomes blocked due to an infection, fluids build up in the middle ear and directly affect the hearing nerve. When bacteria and a virus infect this collection of fluid, the eardrum becomes swollen causing severe pain in the ear area.
