Arsenicum Album

It is commonly referred to Ars Alb in homeopathic circles. The chemical formula is As 2 O 3 . Arsenicum Album is also called Arsenious Oxide or Arsenic. It was well known in the days of old to be a poison and was used as such. It affected amongst other tissues, especially the mucous linings. Because it was capable to do this in large doses it was employed in homeopathy in infra-toxic (not poisonous) doses.

By law homeopaths can only keep a 1 part per million dose as the maximum strength, which cannot cause any toxic effects. The white tasteless arsenic powder is triturated initially and then made into liquid. This makes the dose extremely safe yet medicinally active.

It treats the following symptoms:

• A watery discharge, the discharge is usually thin and causes irritation to the upper lip

The mother tincture is used as a phyto-therapeutic.

Hepar Sulphuris Calcarea

It is also known as Hepar Sulph, Hepar Sulphuris Calcareum or Sulphuret of Lime. The homeopathic remedy is prepared using the middle layer of the oyster shell and sulphur (flowers of sulphur). The first three potencies are prepared via trituration and higher potencies are made in a water-alcohol admixture. It was proven and used by homeopathy's found Dr Samuel Hahnemann in the 1700's.

Hahnemann prepared Mercurius Vivus using Nitric Acid mixed with caustic ammonia to precipitate the mercury. Homeopathic trituration in sugar of milk produces the first three potencies from which higher potencies are made.

It treats the following:

• Excessive sneezing especially on exposure to sunlight
• Nasal linings are raw and ulcerated
• Nasal bones feel tender and swollen
